About Us
Meet the leaders of Team Taking Cure of Business!
About Cameron:
Cameron was born and raised in Sacramento and is a junior at C.K. McClatchy High School, where he plays varsity soccer and tennis. In his freetime, he loves to hang out with his friends, go to Oakland A's games, and watch movies. He has volunteered in various community service opportunities around the city for McClatchy’s HISP program and California Scholarship Federation and has been a counselor at 4-H On the Wild Side camp, which teaches science skills to middle school students, since his freshman year. These opportunities have readied him for a greater, more profound role. Although Cameron hasn’t personally been affected by blood cancer, he and his family have experienced the effects of other cancers. His motivation to raise money for LLS comes from the fact that leukemia is the leading cause of death among children, and being a young person himself, he feels passionate about finding a cure.
About Jacob:
Jacob, 16, was born and raised in Sacramento, California and is running with two of his good friends for Students of the Year. He is a student at C.K. McClatchy High School in the Law and Public Policy Academy. In his freetime, Jacob enjoys playing baseball and wrestling for McClatchy. Along with that, he loves to hang out with his family and friends and play with his two dogs, Bugsy and Willow.
Jacob was first introduced to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society when a presentation was made at his student government class. He knew right away he had to join and be a part of this amazing organization. Although he has not been directly affected by leukemia or lymphoma, other types of cancer has affected his family. Jacob is extremely excited to be a part of this campaign and raise money for LLS to find that cure!
About Joe:
Joe has lived in Sacramento his whole life. He is 17 years-old and is a junior at C.K. McClatchy High School. Ever since he was 4, soccer has been what he’s passionate about. Putting thousands of hours to the sport, it has been very influential in how he has developed as a person. He currently plays on McClatchy’s varsity team in the winter and Folsom Lake Earthquakes the rest of the year. Outside of school and soccer, he enjoys hanging out with friends and spending time with family.
When he first heard about the Student of the Year campaign, it was never really a question whether or not he wanted to do it. As friends and family members of his have been affected by cancer, he saw it as an amazing opportunity to help those people and support a great cause. He is very excited to take part in this journey, and Team Taking Cure of Business will do all they can to help fight blood cancer!
Welcome to Cameron Lee, Jacob Edwards & Joe Ciminelli's SOY Fundraising Page!
We are honored to have been accepted as a candidate in the 2018 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We are raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team who raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.
Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere we thank you for your support!
