Lori's Student Visionaries of the Year Denver Fundraiser

Feb 12, 2024

Dear Friends.

My 16 year old granddaughter, Kayla, is raising funds for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  If you could find it in your heart to support her and make a donation to this awesome campaign, that would be amazing!  Thank you for your consideration.

An earthquake shook  my family's world when my 6 year old grandson (Kaden) was diagnosed with Leukemia.

Kayla, his sister, was 8 years old at the time.  Kaden's battle with cancer took quite an emotional toll on Kayla.  They were both forced to grow up overnight missing much of a normal childhood.  She watched his treatments and side affects for 3-1/2 years.   Kaden rang the bell signifying the end of his treatments  May 6, 2019.    Now, Kayla is 16 and she has decided that because this May is Kaden's "cure date" (he is 14 now), she will run a campaign for Student Visionaries to raise funds for the Leukemia &Lymphoma Society (LLS) in the hopes her generation will see a world without blood cancers.

I’m proud to be a part of Kayla's team.  I myself have seen the difference LLS has made in the research for cures and less harsh treatments for cancer patients.  Especially children's cancer.  For example while Kaden had to undergo treatments for 3 1/2 years,  new develops from research have cut  that timeframe to 2  years.  That is huge for children! An entire year less of chemo and drugs; necessary to save their lives, but at the same time making them sick and possibly changing and harming their physical developement.  Fifty years ago Kaden would have died with his cancer, but because people like you and I have supported and donated to foundations like LLS, my grandson is a survivor today.

As we leave this chapter of our lives, we want to make sure that research, support and advocacy for families continues.  Why LLS? We have seen the difference their work has made.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!

Thanks for your efforts Kayla McPherson! Cancer took Patty's mom last year. She battled for over 10 years. I continue my battle with prostate cancer as do so many.

Kayla…from one big sister to another…as you wrote, carrying the psychological weight of a cancer diagnosis is no small feat. You and Kaden sound like an unbeatable team and I’m honored to donate to your efforts
