Dear Friends and Family, I am incredibly honored and excited to be nominated to participate in the Students of the Year campaign for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). On January 13th,2022, we will kick off a 7-week campaign ending on March 5, 2022, to help save lives by funding research, treatments, and valuable support for patients and families as they battle blood cancers. Cancer has always been a part of my life. When I was in 3rd grade my mom (Jill Pechacek) got diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She was given less than 6 months left to live, she was a warrior and fought as hard as she could but unfortunately passed in January of 2018. She was a loving mother, a doctor, and one of the kindest souls you could ever meet. “I wake up and I consider each day another miracle,” said Jill. She had most of her pancreas and liver removed and spent over 1,700 days in treatment. Her strength came from God and good friends. She had walked to raise money for research. She had given countless inspirational speeches and had made kindness contagious. “I intend to be here but if God needs me there, I will serve him wherever he needs me the most,” she said. Some days I am still in disbelief that it's my mom. She cared so much about others and fought for everyone else around her. So that’s why I am honored to be fighting for those who can’t. LLS has made outstanding efforts in the treatment of blood cancers. LLS’s work is changing the lives of 1.3 million Americans living with blood cancer. In fact, the treatments that LLS is funding benefit all cancer patients. More than 40% of the new cancer treatment drugs approved by the FDA since 2004 started as blood cancer drugs but are now being applied in other forms of cancer. My campaign to be the Student of the Year ends with the Grand Finale on March 3, 2022. I’m so thrilled and honored to help an organization that is saving lives daily and finding cures. The candidate(s) whose team tallies the most votes earns the prestigious title of Student or Students of the Year. Will you help me earn that title?
 
As you know, everyone wins when cancer loses. Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund therapies and treatments that are saving lives. Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.
 
Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.
 
We really are getting close to our goal of a world without blood cancers!
