Welcome! I am incredibly honored and excited to participate as a candidate in the 2020 Students of the Year program. This is a seven-week initiative in which high school students have the wonderful opportunity to raise money for research to help The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society find a cure for blood cancer!  The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Each dollar is a vote. Our mission is to not only raise money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

Did you know that every 3 minutes someone in the United States is diagnosed with blood cancer? The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) is working hard to make sure no one loses their battle. LLS has funded 46 out of 51 Food and Drug Administration approved treatments for blood cancer. And since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. LLS is closer to finding a cure for blood cancer than ever before, and the organization also supports research that repurposes drugs to fight other cancers such as melanoma and breast cancer, as well as other diseases such as Parkinson's, diabetes, arthritis, and Alzheimer's. 

When I was first nominated to participate as a candidate in LLS's life-saving mission, I was really interested because my mom was diagnosed with late-stage melanoma in the past. Thanks to immunotherapy similar to the one that LLS is funding, my mom beat cancer and is making the world a better place every day. I want to help other people beat the odds and create full lives for themselves. 

We really are changing the face of blood cancer.
