Grace & Sophie Norick | Doin It For Danger
Grace and Sophie’s Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser
We got involved with this campaign because on January 19, 2019, our neighbor, Bodhi Danger Macken, was taken to see his pediatric doctor after his preschool teacher had noticed bruising all over his body. From there, he was admitted to the emergency room, where he was diagnosed with B-cell acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at only three years old. This began his three-year journey of frequent doctor visits, chemotherapy, and trial medication. Bodhi is not just our neighbor. He and his brother Fynn are practically our siblings. We grew up together; the constant sound of doorbell rings and giggles was not unusual. This is why it was so much more personal when Bodhi was diagnosed. Although we were only 13 years- old, we knew the severity of the situation. We did our best to ensure Bodhi felt supported, and we witnessed him go through it all. Everyone knew the treatment process would be no easy task, but perseverance and determination would allow Bodhi to push through. On June 20, 2022, Bodhi Danger rang the bell, signaling the end of his three-year battle with cancer. Unfortunately, his cancer has since returned, and he is currently undergoing treatment. The diagnosis sent waves once again through the Macken family and our own family.
Bodhi and his mom, Natalie Rhoades, inspired us to help those who face similar struggles. Bodhi continues to wear a smile on his face even after everything he has been through; he constantly reminds us of strength and motivates us daily. We want to spread awareness and have people diagnosed with this awful disease receive the help they need daily.
