in Mid-December my nephew received the terrible news that his 16 year old daughter -Alaina was sick and was diagnosed with ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia). As you know, any parent receiving news like this, is worried about his child and to compound matters, this is a disease that we all know strikes the entire population and some will find challenges with this diagnosis. Alaina is a very confident and strong individual that does well in school, has many friends, and actually plays rugby (one of the toughest sports, in my opinion), their team from northern virginia just placed 3rd in a national competition. so we know she is a fighter.
this is especially important to me as i have been involved with this organization every year since 1989. in 1993 a good running friend of mine, Bryce Mareski, was diagnosed with Leukemia. his fight for the future he dreamt of - family and children, was his path, and there were not going to be any obstacles for him to reach his destination. he was an inspiration to me. in his honor, i took over the head coaching duties for the team in training program for western pennsylvania for 17 years. coming in contact and helping to inspire over 2000 participants reach endurance goals and to help raise hundred of thousands of dollars for this organization. i named my my middle child's middle name after Bryce, and now that MIles is 26, his middle name aptly resonates the fight that Bryce had and continues to had.
So i am asking you once again to help suppor this endeavor and this year it is special. on my team are 2 of my sons coming in to compete and honor their cousin by helping to raise money. also, my wife peggy is organizing a women's team to help raise money also to help. as you know i am forever grateful for having such family and friends who continue to come to the fight and help inspire me to help those in need as they will fight for their future.
Thank you for this consideration.
