My home of Minnesota is a land of extremes -- on February 7th I went for a run in -6F degree weather, and later today I'll be running in 60F degree weather.  Even with the frigid cold I've stayed active this winter, racking up 500+ miles running outdoors and biking on the trainer.  I have some work to do, though, as I plan to run the virtual Flying Pig the first weekend of May:  a 1 mile, 5K, 10K, and half marathon over the course of several days.  When that's done, I'll have the virtual America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride at the beginning of June, 100 miles through the Minnesota countryside.  Even though I won't be traveling to Cincinati or Lake Tahoe, I'm bound and determined to make these events FUN.  AND, I'm bound and determined to do more for the mission!

As I'm typing this, I'm also chatting with a good friend on Facebook Messenger.  Her husband, another good friend and TNT cycling alumni, is a recent survivor of blood cancer.  The two of them are retired now, and traveling the warmer parts of the nation in a cute motorhome.  I am SO HAPPY for the both of them, and SO APPRECIATIVE to everyone who has supported LLS.  Your donations funded research that led to better treatments for blood cancer, providing my friend with a chance to enjoy his retirement.  THANK YOU!!!

Please Donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!

80% of donations go to blood cancer research and patient assistance, and for those wondering I’ll be funding my own travel and lodging. To make a donation you can:

 -  Make a donation via credit card or PayPal on the right of this page --->

 -  Send a check made-out to 'LLS' to my address listed below

Please send your donations so they’re received by June 30th.  Many companies will match employee charity donations; if your company does, please contact me and I can help with paperwork. All donations are tax deductible.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for taking the time to read this! Why not take the time now to make a donation? Together with LLS we can fund research and find a cure for cancer.

Cancer still exists, but with each passing year research groups are finding new ways to diagnose, treat and in some cases cure cancer. In a pitch to do my part, I have signed up with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team in Training (TNT). In addition to fundraising for LLS, I will be training for the Flying Pig Marathon (virtual) and America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride (Virtual) and the Scenic Shore Bike Tour (WI) in 2021!

2020 did not go as anyone had hoped.  What I am hoping is that I look back at this a year from now, wipe a tear from my cheek, and thank our lucky stars that it’s all behind us.  One thing that DID go as hoped was the fundraising.  In 2020 friends and family donated over $11,000 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, bringing the total raised since 2012 to $63,000.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Next year I’m running and riding in honor of Amanda, a survivor of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).  Amanda and I met only once at the Disney Marathon this past January, yet I know her husband Chris quite well.  He and I trained together for the Disney Marathon last year, and we frequently trained together.  Over the course of our runs, I learned a lot about Amanda’s condition and treatments, and I developed great respect for Chris himself; being the caregiver of someone going through blood cancer cannot be easy, yet Chris is one of the most positive and up-beat people I know.  Together I know Amanda and Chris will make it through this.  While Amanda is still dealing with health complications with her treatments, I am pleased to hear she’s AML free.  We need BETTER treatments for AML!

Please Donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!
