Welcome to my fundraising page for this year's Scenic Shore, benefitting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and specifically, our Wisconsin Chapter. This has not been a normal year... far from it. And while our lives have been turned upside down by the COVID pandemic, Cancer IS NOT cancelled this year!
Nearly a decade ago, my father, Tom Dunham, was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML). CML is a blood cancer that is caused by a chromosome mutation that occurs spontaneously and doctors/researchers are not certain about what causes it. Since the introduction of tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy in 2001, CML has been transformed from a life-threatening disease to a manageable chronic condition for most patients. People are living longer with CML and experiencing fewer treatment side effects.
This breakthrough in therapy was the result of hundreds of thousands of hours of research, trial and error and a commitment to a cure. Imagine this… my dad’s treatment pathway and life expectancy would have been dramatically reduced had he been diagnosed only a decade earlier. It’s with this in mind that humbly ask for your support.
Our team, Philly 22, was recognized by LLS last year as a top fundraising team out of more than 1,300 total riders, raising over $32,000! I am riding in my Dad’s honor and in memory of my grandfather, Hal Dunham, who survived with leukemia for several years before he passed in 2010.. We have a new goal of surpassing $50,000 and we need your help!! I know I can count on you!
Out of an abundance of caution and with much deliberation, the traditional route of the Scenic Shore 150 and the event itself has been cancelled for 2020. Instead, each of us Team Captain’s are designing our own “scenic shore ride” that will endeavor to accomplish the same goal as year’s past: Raise as much money for the LLS as possible! We will be riding on September 12th from my home and hope to recruit more than three times the number of riders for Philly 22 as last year. I look forward to sharing feedback on the event, our experience and most importantly, our impact!
Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. Thanks to your support, my efforts, will help fund the therapies and treatments and help save lives today.
LLS's continued advancements over the years, are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling and tripling; in some cases, the survival rate has even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers. They're even being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. LLS funded drugs are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.
Please visit my Web site often and bring friends who would also like to donate! Remember… Cancer is not cancelled this year!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support!
