"Today we fight.

Tomorrow we fight.

The day after we fight.

And if this disease plans on whipping us, then it better pack a lunch, 'cause it's going have a long day doing it."

-Jim Beaver, LIFE'S THAT WAY

Oh The Places You will Go...

"You have brains in your head, feet in your shoes

You can steer yourself any direction you choose

You are on your own and you know what you know.

And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go."

 -Dr. Suess

The morning is a little doleful, with grey clouds  threatening to burst into rain any minute, but damn it.. I am determined to ride today! I believe blue skies await me today! What running and biking solo has taught me  is that joy always presents itself in unexpectant places if you push yourself to take a chance, if you are willing to risk getting little uncomfortable, and if you put your fears aside and exlpore the unkown.  We are so used to choosing comfort over finding our edge, and end up missing out on the unfathomable gifts. A little trepidation and a little discomfort teaches us how much inner strength we have. And sometimes, being the only one out on a lonely road allows us to speak to our soul through the rain.

So, who cares if there's a chance of rain, a chance you may get cold, or tired, or even lost...ride to feel things you never felt before and to leave what you don't want to feel behind. Every long run or bike journey changes me in some way.; and I never regret pushing myself out the door to do it. The essense of this little homily today is:  every single day- rain or shine- you can choose a daring adventure, or nothing at all... I choose to be free. Life is too short to wait for the perfect sunny day. Today's ride is for all the cancer patients who would be happy to choose a bike ride in the rain if they were given a chance, over what trials they have to face today. Perspective.

Please consider donating to my fundraiser today and help a patient with blood cancer get the treatment and care they need to survive.

On, On! Namaste.

It's a very busy but exciting Easter weekend for me today! Last night The Jimmys played at the Thelma and we made over $300 just in cash donations from Koozie sales and the cooler raffles! We didn't get home until 3AM this morning, and now I am off this morning again for my very first outdoor bike ride of the season with  my team, the Lymphomaniacs! Yes, I'm damn tired, but so are all the cancer patients who are fighting for their breath right now, and that's what keeps me and my teammates motivated. Yes, we can change the face of blood cancers and help improve a cancer patient's life today!

Tonight is the BIG fundraiser night at The Knuckledown with The Jimmys and the Cash Box Kings; we will be drawing all the winners from the raffles and hopefully will get a lot more donations for our mission. I hope to see you all tonight! Thank you for helping me raise money for this very important cause.

Now, its time to get on my bike and ride!

Go Team!

I had a long day. It's 10pm and I just got home from work.  I need to set my alarm for 4:30 AM so I can get to the gym and train before I go to work. I'm exhausted just thinking about it. But, it's  those times when your body aches, your spirits are low, your mind is weak, and you want to crawl back into bed... those are the times that make us stronger. I know reaching my goal is important to me, so I'm going to put in the time, the discomfort, the pain... and I'm not going to make any excuses. I'm doing it for all my loved ones who had to fight for their last breath because turning off their alarm clock and going back to sleep wasn't an option. Cancer is so ferocious and cruel; yet everyone who battles it becomes a champion with extraordinary power.

" I think goals should be difficult.

They should force you to work,

even thought they make you uncomfortable at times. "

-Michael Phelps.

I am blessed to have such great friends to support me on this journey as I set out  to ride to raise funds. I know all of us have been affected by cancer in someway. It's heart breaking to find out how many of my supporters on this page are battling it right now. Cancer is so shitty. It causes so much suffering in this world. I'm going to get a little uncomfortable here and DOUBLE my weekend fundraising goal...Because why not reach higher for a good casue?  I know I can do this with the help of friends like you. Let's keep fighting together.

Namaste.

Go Team!

"I'm not afraid of dying, only saying goodbye to you forever."

I watched my dad lie dying for months in the austere, cheerless hospice bed in the very home he raised us in. His brain tumor slowly drained him of everything that made him so strong, gracious, and deeply loved. I lost a beautiful cousin to ovarian cancer recently, a grandpa who I was robbed of ever meeting to Leukemia, and a dear uncle who is currently battling the last days of his life to Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I have many friends who have also lost their battle with cancer and who have left me with more holes in my heart. Yes, I have witnessed cancer taking the warm and lovely memories in life, and turn them into a space of darkness and emptiness forever, but it has given me the volition to fight back back at it. Cancer might take away my loved ones, it might take away me, but I wont stop pushing, climbing and pedaling until I even the score!

Go Team! Ride hard, with your hearts full.

Russ Richey,
I have a July birthday coming up. While I lament the physical changes that become more apparent each year with aging, I know that that it is important to be grateful for every year. Most of us face challenges on a daily basis, whether they are from chronic illness, personal struggles, or both. But those of us who go through another year without serious life threatening illness are truly blessed.
