I am participating in the Big Climb this year in honor of my mom, Jo, who was diagnosed with leukemia in early 2021.  She has been on quite a journey the last few years with chemo, a stem cell transplant, and multiple hospital stays at MD Anderson, but we are so grateful that today she is doing well and is stronger than she has been in years!

When she was first diagnosed with AML, one of the deadliest kinds of leukemia, with a mutation that has fewer treatment options, we were  obviously very scared but hopeful when we learned about the new drugs and treatment options that have JUST been developed in the last 3-5 years that have been having some success.  We were so grateful and inspired to learn that the Leukemia and Lymphoma society has had a specific initiative targeting development of these drugs for AML.  In fact, her doctor at MD Anderson has even received some funding from LLS for research.  Overall 70% of the new drugs that have been developed since 2017 for blood cancers have been supported with funding by LLS. I truly believe that access to these new drugs saved my mom's life!

When we found out about the Big Climb event in Houston, my siblings, family, and I were really excited about the opportunity to give back in a small way to try to raise awareness and funds for this critical blood cancer research.  We can see the immediate and personal impact that it has had on my mom's outcomes and we know the urgency to keep advancing the treatments -- without this work that has been done we would likely not have her here with us today!  

Please consider joining our team and climbing 50+ flights of stairs with us on April 6th!  There will be t-shirts and crawfish afterward for all involved :-)  Registration is $40, and just be sure to join Jo's Team so that you will be with us!  The minimum age is 8, so Addie is actually joining as well if you have kiddos that want to participate. 

If you are not in Houston or just don't feel ready to tackle a stair climb, you can still give a gift to support LLS and cancer research. We are grateful for any and all support that you can give!
