Team Charlibelle is Climbing for a Cure Again this year. As we train with Mom's in Training (MIT)/Healthy Start, we will all be working to raise money to help support Leukemia and Lymphoma research. While training hard we are always thinking about all those who are fighting this awful disease, especially my little four year old daughter who has shown everyone around her how brave can be wrapped in such a little package.

On October 21, 2015, my 21 month old daughter was diagnosed with ALL B Cell Leukemia. We will never forget the two doctors, two fellows and social worker that were waiting outside of our hospital room to tell us the diagnosis. There were many tears and questions of how something so bad could be inside of someone so small and innocent. We turned to Dr. Alexander Aledo, at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weil Cornell Medicine and his team of experts for Charlotte’s treatment. We begged for answers and wished this was all a mistake. During the first four weeks of inpatient care, we witnessed Charlotte go through rounds of chemo, blood and platelet transfusions, lose her hair, and swell up from steroids. As a parent, you wish for nothing more than to be able to switch places with your child and experience the pain and hurt for them. It hurt us so much to see our little girl go through something so awful and not be able to do anything other than hope that the treatment would be successful.

Now here we are, with a 5 year old Charlotte who had been FINISHED with treatments for a year and in continued remission! She has shown us how to live in the moment, laugh, be silly and enjoy life despite the struggles she continues to face.
