In 2014, Team Torsie was founded in honor of Torsie Haugli. Torsie was an incredibly vibrant soul; her smile lit up every room she walked in, and her optimistic attitude was infectious. She left a lasting impact on everyone who was lucky enough to have known her.
For those who may not know her story, in May 2014, on the morning of her college graduation, Torsie was taken to the ER in Lexington, KY for severe pain and a high fever. She was then transferred to Cleveland Clinic where she was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer (Anaplastic Large T-Cell Lymphoma ALK Positive with Leukemic involvement). Torsie fought valiantly, handling every obstacle with grace and positivity until her passing in May 2015.
Since 2014, Team Torsie has raised nearly $17,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). We now will be taking on our biggest fundraising challenge yet!
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has graciously presented a small group of ~35 riders, including Team Torsie member Sarah Fletcher, the opportunity to participate in this years Velo Palmetto fundraising campaign. The Velo Palmetto is a 3-day cycling and fundraising competition that will be held October 23rd-26th in Greenville, SC. This event will bring together driven volunteers who share a passion for cures and cycling with the ultimate goal of raising $750,000 for cancer research.
The LLS is the world's largest nonprofit health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. Their continued advancements over the years are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling, tripling and even quadrupling in some cases.
Sarah has committed to raising $25,000 for Team Torsie & the LLS. Please join us in supporting her and the LLS by making a donation to our fundraising campaign. Any donation amount is greatly appreciated and will help us get closer to a cure. Your donation will help fund treatments that save lives and support patients in their time of need.
Your donation will not only help individuals with blood cancer but can also positively affect those impacted by other illnesses as well. Many LLS supported therapies are now also used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers. These therapies are also being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. Additionally, LLS funded drugs are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.
