Welcome to the Rieger Family’s Velo Palmetto 2025 story. It is written on behalf of my kids (Carly, Kent, Cameron, Chase) and me.
Their mom, Lori, passed away from AML leukemia in 2012. It was caused by a rare genetic disorder known as RUNX1-FPD, which has also affected others in her family’s bloodline. Their paternal grandmother also had CLL leukemia.
I’ll be biking the Velo Palmetto 2025 on October 24-26 in Greenville, SC in honor of my family and to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), which has been renamed to Blood Cancer United. Its purpose is to improve and save lives via:
- Research: Has invested ~$2Bn to advance blood cancer research and cures.
- Patient Access: Leading source of information, education, and support for patients, survivors, and their families.
- Policy & Advocacy: State/Federal government funding, regulatory approvals, and access to lifesaving treatments.
The name change to Blood Cancer United will expand the reach to 100+ types of blood cancers beyond leukemia and lymphoma. It will bring together patients, families, scientists, providers, health systems, volunteers, donors, and business leaders under a shared purpose.
If you’re interested and able, we’d appreciate your support of LLS (now Blood Cancer United). Donations can be made on this webpage and are tax deductible. We also invite you to join events like Light The Night, Team In Training, and Galas, among others. Details can be found at https://bloodcancerunited.org.
On behalf of all blood cancer patients, survivors, and their families, thanks for your support of LLS (now Blood Cancer United)!
With gratitude,
Rich Rieger / Carly, Kent, Cameron, Chase
