My why?   My world was forever changed on June 11, 2010 at exactly 8:00 PM ET.  That was the moment, my son, Riley, then aged 13, took his last breath.   I held his hand and then he was gone.   Riley had been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on January 5, 2010.   Between those dates, he received treatment at two hospitals and only twice was he able to leave the hospital for the real world.  This real world we live in have children, like Riley, who suffer from blood cancers.   For reference, I, too, am a blood cancer survivor! 

I hike to raise funds for Blood Cancer United in support of their funding for research, for their advocacy, for their financial assistance to patients in need.

Starting on June 27, my team, Champions 4 Cures, will hike the island of Madeira.  Riley is with me in every step I take...every mountain I climb...

From that last breath, I knew that I must do something to support this cause as I never want another parent to hold their child's hand during that last breath.
