Five years ago in April, our 15 year old son William was diagnosed with very high risk Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). AML is an aggressive form of cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Before we understood what was happening, William was admitted to the ICU, receiving blood transfusions, and starting chemotherapy treatments. William eventually received a stem cell transplant, which was critical in his survival of this life threatening diagnosis.
We entered a world we knew nothing about. Powering through each day and each challenge that came from harsh toxic treatments, side effects from medications, pain management, and months of isolated hospital stays. Life as we knew it stalled — while William fought hard with courage, dignity, resilience, and positivity. Our family’s identity changed, our daughter navigated her senior high school year with little emotional or physical parental presence and support.
Three years ago, William introduced our family to Blood Cancer United (formerly known as The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society). He fundraised through their high school leadership program to help improve the lives of others also affected by blood cancers.
Following in William’s foot steps, we are fundraising this year to support The Dare to Dream Project, an initiative dear to our hearts. Blood Cancer United’s Dare to Dream Project is a $175 million campaign dedicated to transform the treatment and care of children with blood cancers. Blood Cancer United is “powering innovative research, new, safer treatments, support services, and advocacy for kids with blood cancers”. Our family is honored to be part of this journey, in hopes that one day no parent will have to hear that their child has been diagnosed with blood cancer.
William is now a sophomore at the University of Michigan, planning on going to Medical School. He climbed Mount Kilimanjaro last summer, and he is just back from traveling to Spain and Morocco. Looking at him, one could never tell what he went through, a true blessing.
We thank you greatly for your consideration. This campaign will run from March 23rd through
April 20th, 2026. Our family will match all donations up to $100,000.
All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of donations made on this page will go directly to the Dare to Dream Project.
With gratitude, William, Anne-Sophie, Robert, and Nathalie
