The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Pennies for Patients campaign is working with thousands of schools across the country to raise funds for blood cancer research--and we are one of them!

Meet JaQwis Dancy

Jaqwis Dizhante Dancy, son of Sean and Debra Dancy was born on April 22, 1997 in Homer, Louisiana and graduated from Junction City High School in 2015. As a three-star rated recruit ranked 63rd nationally among running backs by Rivals in the 2015 class he lettered in football, track, basketball and weight lifting. JaQwis attends Lousiana Tech University and was redshirted after he was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin lymphoma in early October of 2016.

After enduring four months of chemotherapy treatments and radiation at St. Jude’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee,  he was cancer-free on Feb. 9, 2017 and officially returned to the field during spring practice in April 2017. He completed his cancer comeback when he scored his first career touchdown in the 2017 season-opener against Northwestern State (9/2). That same year he had 39 carries for 262 yards and two touchdowns on the season, while also making three receptions for 26 yards and returned 10 kickoffs for a total of 308 yards (30.8 avg.), including a career-long return of 65 yards in LA Tech’s 51-10 win over No. 25-ranked SMU in the DXL Frisco Bowl.
