Elijah, 3 years old, released from AI on February 14

Mrs. Smith's 3rd Grade Class

On Valentines Day, I had the privelege of delivering Valentines Day cards to the children battling blood cancer at AI Dupont Hospital. The third grade class pictured above, and all of the lower school classes participated in Tower Hill School's LLS Week of Love by making Valentines Day cards for children there age suffering from cancer. It was awesome to see how appreciative the kids and their families were with the cards, and I hope I have the chance to do it again! Thank you to everyone who participated in this week.

During this LLS Week of Love, each day students dressed in a specific color to support a specific type of blood cancer. For instance Monday was white for Leukemia. Soda, candy, treats, and raffle tickets for an iPad were sold at lunch each day. On Tuesday, the THS Baking Club put on a great bake sale. On Thursday, there was a community breakfast served in the morning. It was an awesome week!

I have learned a lot over the past weeks, and I am very happy I decided to run in memory of my Grandmother. I've learned how many people really are affected by blood cancers, and how much something as little as a card can better a child and their family's day. Thank you so much to everyone who as supported me over the past few weeks.

Welcome To My Student of the Year Fundraising Page.

Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. Thanks to your support, my efforts, will help fund the therapies and treatments and help save lives today.

My Grandmother died of Cancer, and the amount of friends I have seen my parents lose to cancer is heartbreaking. I am sure that you have also been affected by the awful disease. One in five persons in the US will die from cancer. Every three minutes, two people in the US die from cancer, and every 30 seconds, someone is diagnosed. Every four minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Every ten minutes someone dies from a blood cancer. HOWEVER, with donations like your own, LLS's has doubled, tripled, and even quadrupled surival rates.

And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers. They're even being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. LLS funded drugs like Gleevec, Sprycel, Arinza, Tasigna and Zolinza are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

Please visit my Web site often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support!
For more information about LLS, please visit lls.org

I have had leukemia (aml) for five years now, and it is still in remission. My remission and the remissions of others is due in large part to the fund raising efforts of people like you and the LLS.
