Elijah, 3 years old, released from AI on February 14
Mrs. Smith's 3rd Grade Class
On Valentines Day, I had the privelege of delivering Valentines Day cards to the children battling blood cancer at AI Dupont Hospital. The third grade class pictured above, and all of the lower school classes participated in Tower Hill School's LLS Week of Love by making Valentines Day cards for children there age suffering from cancer. It was awesome to see how appreciative the kids and their families were with the cards, and I hope I have the chance to do it again! Thank you to everyone who participated in this week.
During this LLS Week of Love, each day students dressed in a specific color to support a specific type of blood cancer. For instance Monday was white for Leukemia. Soda, candy, treats, and raffle tickets for an iPad were sold at lunch each day. On Tuesday, the THS Baking Club put on a great bake sale. On Thursday, there was a community breakfast served in the morning. It was an awesome week!
I have learned a lot over the past weeks, and I am very happy I decided to run in memory of my Grandmother. I've learned how many people really are affected by blood cancers, and how much something as little as a card can better a child and their family's day. Thank you so much to everyone who as supported me over the past few weeks.
