Eli Pinney Elementary School
Thank You for Visiting Our School's Fundraising Page and Supporting Team Kudart!
As a school Eli Pinney raised $2,340.09 in school as well as $1,427 online for a total of $3,767.09 for Team Kudart!
John was diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell - Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma of multiple sites in January of 2019. Within 8 days of diagnosis, he received the first of 6 rounds of R-CHOP chemotherapy. Since there was evidence of lymphoma in John's bone marrow, he also received 3 rounds of High Dose Methotrexate in the hospital. When his treatment was over, a PET/CT scan showed that the cancer was gone, except for two spots on his liver. This was tough news! The standard second-line treatment is a stem cell (bone marrow) transplant. John began chemotherapy once again, this time with RICE in the hopes of going into remission so a stem cell transplant could take place and be more successful. After two rounds of RICE, another PET scan was performed which showed that the cancer did not respond to the chemotherapy at all. This news was even harder to hear! Thankfully, there are more options. Now, John is waiting to receive a type of immunotherapy called CAR-T, specifically Yescarta. This is standard third-line treatment for John's type of lymphoma and is pretty amazing! His own white blood cells will be harvested, sent to a lab to be modified, then through infusion put back in to attack John's cancer. While waiting for this procedure, John will receive a "bridge" chemotherapy to keep his cancer from progressing further. While this has been a tough road, John and family remain positive and optimistic with the motto: "Ignore the rain, look for the RAINBOWS!"
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Pennies for Patients program is working with thousands of schools across the country to raise funds for blood cancer research and patient support services. Our school has partnered with LLS to take on the mission of ending cancer once and for all.
YOU can help our Squad make a huge impact in the fight against cancer by making a contribution to our fundraising efforts!
Thanks to your support, LLS is able to launch new endeavors like it's Children's Initiative.
This initiative seeks to accelerate treatments with fewer harmful side effects so that young patients like Cruz (above) not only survive, but thrive, for generations to come.
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax-deductible. Donations also support LLS research, patient services, advocacy efforts.
Visit this webpage often to check our progress and please feel free to invite friends to donate to our cause.
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
