Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.

This year, we're proud to be Lake Oswego High School's only team (Lakers against Leukemia & Lymphoma) taking part in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.

Why exactly are we here?

Brody: Eventually, all childhood bliss and innocence get interrupted by the horrors of real life. For me, it came when my family friend passed away from leukemia at two years old. Faced with the real possibility of death for the first time ever, his passing shook my world. But what sticks with me forever was seeing how it crushed, destroyed, and forever changed the world of his loved ones. Now, ten years later, I get to challenge this reality that taunts so many families. Through LLS, I can work towards a future in which no family will have to suffer from the loss of their child at the hands of blood cancer.

Roya: Being nominated as a candidate for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's 2024 Portland Student Visionaries of the Year campaign has ignited a profound sense of purpose within me. Having the opportunity to contribute to LLS's vital mission of curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma, while simultaneously enhancing the quality of life for patients and their families, is both an honor and a responsibility. As we embark on this 7 week long journey, my inspiration is rooted in the understanding that every contribution matters in our joint effort against blood cancers. To me, this campaign is not merely about fundraising; it symbolizes a chance to be a part of a transformative movement. It is my aspiration that, through your support, we have the ability to create meaningful change and work towards a future where no one has to endure the heartbreak of a loved one. By participating in this campaign, I aim to make a tangible impact, and I am confident that together, we can contribute significantly to the relentless battle against these life threatening diseases.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Leukemia is the #1 cancer killer of children under the age of 20. In light of this heartbreaking truth, LLS has made it their mission to cure the disease and improve patients' quality of life. To date, LLS has raised $1.7 billion for blood cancer patients and treatments and is simultaneously responsible for 70% of FDA-approved cancer treatment options since 2017.

At the core of all of this are your donations which make it possible for this life-changing work to continue. Please consider joining this fight and helping us ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
