We, Emily & Helina Godtlibsen are honored to participate as a team for the 2020 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Just last spring, our honored hero Jessie Severns was just a normal teenage girl she loved the outdoors, hiking, fishing, camping, hunting and kayaking. She also loved playing sports, she played volleyball, basketball and track. Then one day in February she was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia. Those are words that no one wants to hear. She is our reason for running as candidates for this amazing cause and to help raise funds for blood cancer research, patient services, education and advocacy.

The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

Why LLS you ask? Well, LLS has pumped over 1.2 billion dollars into cancer research. The research that has been monumental in Jessie’s treatment. In fact, over the last decade more than 40% of new cancer treatment drugs & therapies approved by the FDA started as blood cancer treatments and are now being applied to other forms of cancers and diseases such as breast cancer, liver cancer, lupus nephritis, ovarian cancer and diabetes, just to name a few.. As we all know, everybody is touched by cancer in some way. So please know the support you give will have rippling effects across the cancer landscape.
