My name is Darcie Bushee and I have been nominated as a Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Student of the Year candidate.  I belong to a team called Conquering Cancer and we have a charted goal of raising $15,000.00 to help support the cause for blood cancer research. The Student of the Year program is a seven week fundraising campaign that starts on January 11, 2020 and ends to February 29, 2020.  We are hopeful that we can increase this season’s donations by surpassing last year’s fundraising goal to further this important cancer research that is vital to discovering a cure. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society funds leading-edge research for every type of blood cancer, including leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other rare types of blood cancers. As the largest nonprofit funder of cutting-edge blood cancer research to advance cures, LLS has invested nearly $1.3 billion in cancer research since they started in 1949, leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients. Donations are the direct link to these treatment advances.

 I became passionate about joining efforts on finding a cure after learning about the stories and experiences my Aunt has witnessed as a Nurse Practitioner at a leading cancer hospital.  She, along with the many other dedicated healthcare professionals, have waged a conceded battle against this unforgiving disease with the intention of winning by saving lives and improving health outcomes.  It is apparent that this battle cannot be won by any single warrior and requires the solicitation of all. These determined professionals, along with their brave patients, need all the assistance they can acquire.  

 Your donation contributes more than just a monetary means needed to combat this disease, it sends a message of support and displays an inspiring action that matches those in the front lines.  You have an opportunity to join forces that can further research to gain the ultimate cure we so desperately need. Your contributions have a real impact on today’s advancements that will add up to tomorrow’s victory over this disease.  Our hope will be rejuvenated when we hear back from you; remember the supporters donations help cure leukemia and lymphoma.
