All of us probably know someone who has battled cancer and seen the awful toll it takes on them and their loved ones - physically, emotionally, and financially. I have, and it is for all those fierce loved ones and friends that motivate me to run as a candidate of Student of the Year. 

It’s really hard to understand how this disease can still be affecting one out of every three people today, and that all of us will most likely be impacted by cancer in some way at some point in our lifetimes. Which is why I’ve created a team of committed friends and family to partner with me on this endeavor. Our team, Raise Hope, has 7 weeks to raise as much awareness and funds as possible. All the money that is raised goes directly to the largest blood cancer research program in the nation, LLS, to fund cutting-edge research and treatments. In fact, the treatments that LLS is funding benefits non-blood cancer patients too. More than 40% of new cancer treatment drugs approved by the FDA since 2004 started as blood cancer drugs are now being applied in other forms of cancer.
