I’m so excited to tell you that I’ve been nominated for Students of the Year for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)!

Students of the Year is a unique and exciting philanthropic leadership development program. Beginning January 18 and ending March 8, candidates compete to raise money and awareness for LLS. The student candidate to raise the most money at the end of 7 weeks is titled Student of the Year!

I became involved with LLS because of the impact that cancer has had on almost every person I have met.  Playing lacrosse with my friend Liz Lofurno and witnessing her fight with cancer had a huge effect on me.  It provided me with a whole new outlook on life and put in perspective what I used to perceive as obstacles or hurdles in my life. When Liz nominated me to run for Students of the Year, I was presented with the opportunity to make a difference. 

That's 175,000 people each year. LLS is fighting for those patients. LLS is the world’s leader in funding research and providing support to patients fighting cancer. LLS has helped advance 46 of the 53 blood cancer treatment options approved by the FDA since 2017.

In 2018, LLS invested over $1.1 million in co-pay financial assistance to blood cancer patients in Oregon alone.

That’s huge for patients and their families. All of the money I raise will go to this important mission to help patients like Liz, and provide hope for the friends and families watching their loved one battle this disease.
