It's Summer, just letting you know there are a few upcoming events for my fundraiser! Here's what we're working with so far:

- March 7th 5:30pm-7:30pm Painting Party, drink hot cocoa and paint a cute picture!

- March 12th 11:00am-11:00pm BJ's give back dinner night, eat good food for a great cause! You'll need to show up with a flyer in order for a percentage of the proceeds to go towards the fundraiser, email amberbergerson@gmail.com to get one!

Summer Bergerson is a 15-year-old sophomore at Edmond Santa Fe high school. She was born in Norman, but has lived in Edmond her entire life. Summer loves hanging out with her friends, watching movies, and traveling! In 2017 with just 2 days of school left in 8th grade, Summer was diagnosed with acute lymphatic leukemia. Even though it is a very common cancer in children, she was considered high-risk because of her age. She was 13 at the time. On September 26th, 2019 her journey with leukemia will finally be over. She has handled this journey with confidence and grace. She is doing incredible today and continues to be a happy teenager. Summer’s future is looking bright, and she has embraced this Students of the Year opportunity not only to help raise funds for this amazing organization, but to bring awareness to childhood cancers. There is also a scholarship awarded to the winners of this competition that would be a great help with Summer’s college plans.

I am honored to participate as a candidate for the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
