Cayla & Katelyn

Feb 15, 2019

Cayla was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School for elementary school. For her first two years of high school she went to Mount St. Mary’s Catholic High School, but now she goes to Bishop McGuinness. She lives with her mother, Christy, her brother, Daniel, who is in 8th grade at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and her sister, Violeta, who is only three years old. Cayla loves playing tennis and reading books. She is also planning on making a baking club with her friends. She loves to bake everything. Outside of school, Cayla loves to hike, swim, and hang out with her friends. She loves to go to the movies, especially to see comedies and her favorite restaurant is Charleston’s. Cayla was nominated by one of her teachers as a candidate for the LLS Students of the Year program. She has always been a caring person to others and willing to help. Her school recently lost two great students, Brandon Nalagan and Adam Valle, to leukemia. It has been a rocky second semester for many students at Bishop McGuinness. Although, they have been strong. Cancer needs to be cured so kids like them will get to live their lives. She is also planning on going into the medical field when she gets older to help kids like Brandon and Adam. She wants to make a positive impact on everyone’s lives in any way she possibly can.

Katelyn was born in Piedmont, Oklahoma on November 8, 2000 to Keri and Bryan Pierce. She attended Christ the King Catholic School for middle school and elementary school. Katelyn is currently a senior at Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School. She currently lives in Oklahoma City with her Mom, Dad, and little sister Logan who is a freshman at Bishop McGuinness. Athletics have been a part of Katelyn’s daily life since she was born. With her dad coaching football she spent her years growing up on the sidelines of football games. She is currently playing soccer and running cross country for her high school teams. Although sports are a major part of her daily life academics are always held above her athletics. A member of the national honor society and having taken many AP and honors classes she has held a GPA of above 3.9 her entire high school career. Brains and athleticism are not all there is to Katelyn. One of the key components in her life is service. Gaining over 375 service hours in her high school career Katelyn’s love for service has grown over the last four years. With her love of service Katelyn knew that the LLS Students of the Year Campaign was a perfect opportunity for her to help her community. Leukemia has affected many people in her community in just this last year. After the deaths of Brandon and Adam, her community was wrecked with grief and sadness for many months. It touched the lives of so many people around her. The Students of the Year program is an opportunity to give back to the people who are affected by blood cancers. Together these girls make a great team and they appreciate your consideration.

Welcome to Team Cayla & Katelyn's SOY Fundraising Page!

Jan 28, 2019

I am honored to participate as a team member for the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to support my candidate and am raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.

Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
