Students of the Year Campaign Orange County Inland Empire

Welcome to Kayla Hayashi's SOY Fundraising Page!

Jan 03, 2020

I am honored to have been nominated as a 2020 candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Students of the Year Campaign. Along with my co-candidates, Jacqie Gordon and Will Stauffer, we are competing in a 7 week philanthropic program to raise money and awareness for blood cancers and related diseases. This competition runs between February 9 and March 29, 2020.

The three of us all have all been affected by these illnesses. We have lost many loved ones to leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers. Thankfully, we also have family and friends who have successfully battled these diseases or are currently managing their cancers and blood disorders. This is a fight we are determined to win.

I was shocked to learn that, in the United States, approximately 6 people die every hour from blood cancers. As such, our team has chosen the name 6LPH to represent these 6 Lives Per Hour, in order to emphasize the devastating effects of these cancers. Our 6LPH team goal is to raise over $50,000 this year. If we reach this goal, we have the incredible opportunity to link our names to a medical research grant in an area of interest to us, where we can achieve tangible results.

LLS works to cure Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, myeloma, and other blood related disorders. Since its inception, LLS has donated nearly $1.3 billion to cancer research, and has facilitated the development of 46 of the 53 new blood cancer treatments approved by the FDA in the past three years. Many of these treatments are even being used to treat other types of cancers, diabetes and various other illnesses. Furthermore, LLS strives to improve the quality of life for patients and their families through free educational programs and financial support.

Team 6LPH is committed to helping eradicate cancer, we hope you can support us in this endeavor. With your help, we can turn 6LPH into 0LPH.

Thank you for your generosity,

Kayla Hayashi

In memory of my father who battled with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma for 17 years and passed 12/28/2019. He was a great friend to many, devoted husband and a loving father. He will be deeply missed.
