On September 12, 2018 my cousin, Matt was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Although it is treatable, with a good survival rate, being told that one of my best friends since I was a little boy had cancer was one of the most horrific things I have ever had to hear. Matthew is a big part of our family and his suffering and death would hurt us drastically, but thanks to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), Matt is now in remission and still remains a strong part of our family to this day. 

I am a part of a team for the 2020 Students of the Year campaign for LLS. This is a seven-week fundraising campaign that lasts from February 9 through March 29. My team, Mission CANcer-vive, and I are working hard to reach our fundraising goal of $75,000, in order to reach our goal, we need YOU!! 

Why LLS you ask?  LLS has invested nearly $1.3 billion dollars in blood cancer research. That same research that saved my cousin’s life, as well as many others afflicted like him. Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. In the last decade, over 40 percent of cancer treatments and drugs came from LLS funded research. Not only is it being used to treat Hodgkin's Lymphoma patients, but also those affected by other cancers and diseases, such as breast and liver cancers, Multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimer's Disease.
