Gabby Brutman | Help Is In Our Blood

Welcome to Gabby Brutman's SOY Fundraising Page!

Mar 09, 2018

I am so excited to announce our three special fundraising events benefiting the Leaukemia and Lymphoma Society! The first one coming up is a movie night viewing Ferris Bueler’s Day Off at the Lido Theater. It will be 20 dollars a ticket and there will be raffle opportunities! This will take place on Wednesday, March 28th.

Our second event is something that we are sure all adults would love to be a part of. This is going to be a wine tasting event catered by Filomena’s italian kitchen. There will be many different boutique wines and a bar/bar tender! This will cost $75 dollars and will be held on April 6th.

The last event is our Grit Karma ride! This will be at noon on April 8th at the Costa Mesa Location. It will cost $100 to book a bike and all proceeds go to LLS.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our up coming events! All events are going to be a blast and the best part is that we will be raising money for such an important cause.

The campaign has launched and the seven weeks begin! I can not wait to announce our three events we have planned to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with in the next couple weeks! The next seven weeks are going to be filled with lots of hard work, a huge ammount of love, and lots of compassion. Although I have fortunately not had any direct blood cancer connections, I have had family members and close friends effected by other types of cancers. Both Leah and Wynn also have close and personal connections to breast cancer and we find it important to do whatever it takes to see a world without cancer. Wether it be breast cancer, blood cancer, skin cancer, or any other dreadful disease, we want to make a difference. Luckily, by partnering with LLS for the Students Of The Year campaign, we can do just that!

Welcome to my Students of the Year fundraising page!

Each year The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) launches its Students of the Year fundraising campaign, and I was honored to join this year’s efforts as a 2018 Students of the Year candidate for team Help is in Our Blood. Alongside my two friends Wynn Dietzler and Leah Padden, I am writing today to ask for your support of LLS’s mission in its efforts to find cures for blood cancers and to assist patients and families as they battle this disease.

Starting on March 4th we are embarking on a 7- week journey to raise both money and awareness for all the blood cancers that effect so many people around the world. From March 4th – April 22nd our team goal is to raise $10,000 which will go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding mission to find cures and ensure patients access to the treatments they need.  If we raise $50,000 by June 30th we can link our team name to an LLS-funded research portfolio this year to honor our efforts to help people with blood cancers.

There are many reasons to be proud of supporting LLS’s efforts.  For instance, of the 39 new cancer-fighting drugs approved by the F.D.A in the past 10 years, 19 of them were initially developed for blood cancers and many had funding from LLS.  Of those 19, ALL of them show promise for treating other cancers:

  • Gleevec, used for patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), was recently approved to treat stomach ulcers and is in trials for breast, prostate and ovarian cancer treatments.
  •  Velcade, that targeted drug to treat patients with myeloma or mantle cell lymphoma, is also in trials for people with kidney, lung and thyroid cancers.
  •  Rituxan, the first approved targeted cancer drug that was initially used for non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients, is used in 11 blood cancer and rheumatoid arthritis treatments.

Approximately every 3 minutes one person in the United States is diagnosed with Blood cancer. Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and Myeloma are all horrific diseases that affect not only the quality of the patients’ life but also the people around them. My heart aches thinking of all the people affected by these diseases, but at the same it gives me new found hope and inspiration. After learning more about these blood cancers I could not just sit back and listen to how it takes a toll on so many lives. I want to be a part of a change, and the change starts here.

With your help we can change the fate of cancer.
