When I was around four or five years old my grandpa was diagnosed with prostate cancer. However, I didn’t even know he ever battled cancer until a couple years ago. Due to the fact that I was young, and my grandparents lived far away, my parents decided not to tell me to shield me from the fear and uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis. As I am older now, and have second handedly experienced friends’ grandparents and friends passing away from cancer, I have become much more aware of the luxury I had to simply remain oblivious to my grandpa’s health. Not everyone has the opportunity to do so whether it's happening to them, or someone incredibly close to them. Additionally, my grandpa’s experience, along with many others battling cancer, didn’t have an obvious end point. He went through radiation and has been through remission but to this day, has frequent flare ups. This also reminds me that the money being raised not only goes to research and recovery, but also helps people who don’t reach the satisfaction of beating cancer, but living with it. I am eager to raise money to help blood cancer patients not only survive but thrive after treatment. I have set a goal of $2500 and I need you to reach it. The money raised helps LLS, fund research to advance lifesaving treatments and take immense strides in creating a world without blood cancers, a world we would love and need to see.
