Abi's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 20, 2021

Since you’re already here, why don’t you team up with my fundraising campaign- Secure the Cure- and make a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS)?

By donating to LLS, you are supporting an organization that aims to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life for patients. Your money will be invested in cutting edge research, provide education and support, and advocate at the state and federal level for legislation to help those living with cancer. There are no words to express the gratitude I feel for each and every donation. Each penny brings us closer to the cure and ensures the quality of life that everyone deserves.

In 2017, my dad was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma- a type of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I won't lie- it was scary. I had already witnessed my mom being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011 which came with mastectomy followed by a year of chemotherapy- I couldn’t bear the thought of living through that again. According to my dad, his oncologist said he was diagnosed with “the good kind” of cancer. In other words, if you were to get cancer, this is what you should hope for. I found that statement to be so cryptic; how could this awful disease that I was witnessing take control be “the good kind”?! Day after day I watched my dad grow weaker as he was pumped up with chemotherapy and so many other drugs. The doctors wore him out beyond belief and because of that, my family had to completely change the way we lived. During flu season, he would have to make sure not to shake hands with anyone because even the slightest cold could completely take over his immunocompromised system. I couldn’t help but just beg for it all to be over. I was so scared.

Amazingly, on March 2nd, 2020 (the only good thing to come out of March 2020), was my dad's last day of chemo! I felt as if a weight had been lifted off my back, a weight I had been carrying around for three years. It was a feeling of relief and joy that I can only hope everyone else at least once in their life experiences. I’m participating in this campaign in the hopes that I can help all cancer victims out there get a shot at a second chance- just as my dad did.

Please don’t be shy when it comes to visiting and sharing my page! I would love to spread this as far and wide as possible. Because together, we have the power, the passion and the determination to achieve a world without blood cancer. All donations are tax-deductible.

On behalf of cancer patients and their families everywhere, I sincerely thank you for your support!
