Raney Smith | No Rain, No Flowers

LLS Team No Rain, No Flowers

Jan 10, 2021

It's finally here!  My team has been hard at work planning for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Students of the Year campaign and we are so excited to see what happens over the next 7 weeks.

As many of you know, I was diagnosed with lymphoma the day after Christmas of 2019.  After a series of tests and several surgical biopsies, 2020 started by identifying the specific disease as stage 3 Non-Hodgkin's Large B-cell Lymphoma.  Four rounds of chemo treatments started in January and I spent a total of 48 days at Cook Children's Medical Center over the next few months.  The treatments were rough, and I endured many side effects including painful spinal headaches, mouth sores and losing my hair.  Although there were many difficult days, I was so blessed with friends, family and a community that supported me every step of the way.  Now that I'm post-treatment and disease free, I'd like the opportunity to give back.  It's very hard knowing there are still children fighting for survival on the oncology floor.  This is why I'm choosing to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).

Every facet of LLS’s mission – research, education and support, and policy and advocacy – work in harmony to put blood cancer patients and their families first. LLS has helped millions impacted by cancer throughout its more than 70-year history, even funding breakthrough blood cancer research to advance lifesaving treatments and cures that is now helping patients with other cancers and diseases. That is why at LLS we say that beating cancer is in our blood.  I'm particularly passionate about the LLS Children's Initiative which is providing leading-edge research to find safer, lifesaving therapies for children, teens and young adults with blood cancers.  Many of the current treatments are harsh and outdated with severe life-threatening complications.

Please share my page with anyone you know who would also like to join us in the fight against cancer.   All donations are tax-deductible.  If you or your business is interested in sponsoring us, please reach out to raneyroo@icloud.com!  We'll be sharing our sponsor logos throughout the campaign on all of our social media platforms.

I lost my son Andrew when he was 18 to complications from an astrocytoma on his brain stem. In the 15 years since I've found so much joy in channeling my grief into making a positive change for kids. Keep looking for the flowers, Raney! Thanks for spreading seeds of joy and hope wherever you go!

I am grateful for your recovery Raney and pray your continued perfect health. I am proud of what you are doing with LLS.

I can't begin to describe what an amazing young woman Raney is. All the times she volunteered with young girls from The United Community Centers in Fort Worth...she demonstrated kindness and leadership. With a busy school schedule, she still made time after school to give back to children in need. Like the song goes..."what the world needs now is love sweet love!" And I would also add....more young women like Raney!

  • Morgan Hull

Raney, I am so proud of you on so many levels. At such a young age you were dealt adversity on the highest level, yet handled it with such grace, never complaining and fighting every day until you beat it. Now taking your experience and using it to help others in need is such an impressive act of kindness and further exemplifies your character and determination. Your difficult time also brought to light how special your parents, Whitney & Kirby, are as they never left your side and provided unconditional love and support throughout the entire roller coaster of a journey. It was also inspirational seeing the amount of support pouring in from your brother Reid, other family members, and hundreds of kind-hearted friends to let you know you were never alone. May your future be filled with sunny days and bright flowers! - Love your proud Uncle Bubba
