My name is Kaovya Vel and I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.

Globally, around 300,000 people die from blood cancer each year. Every 3 minutes, someone is the U.S. is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 9 minutes, someone in the U.S. dies from blood cancer.

This year, I’m proud to be Westlake's very first candidate for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission. I have formed Team Hope, and together we work to make LLS's mission a reality.

This is my first year working with LLS. The reason I decided to participate in this campaign is because, unlike many other high school clubs, we can help make a real different in the lives of those who need it with LLS. With YOUR help, we can provide aid to blood cancer patients and their families living in our community. We can fund research and drive advocacy happening within our community. The work we do makes a real difference in the lives of those around us. 

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

• Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
• Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
• Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
