The Leukemia Lymphoma Society was built on the vision of a better world - one without blood cancers. 

LLS is a leader in advancing breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine. This research saves lives. These revolutionary new treatments originally discovered through blood cancer research are now being tested in clinical trials for other cancers. 

Through a nationwide grassroots network of more than 100,000 volunteers, LLS advocates for policies at the state and federal level in a commitment to remove barriers to care for cancer patients. These efforts have helped increase federal research funds, speed the review and approval process of new therapies and ensure patients are able to access lifesaving treatments. 

As the leading source of free blood cancer information, education and support for patients, survivors, families and healthcare professionals, LLS helps patients navigate their cancer treatment and ensures they have access to quality, affordable and coordinated care. 

This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission in the memory of my friend Delaney Nalepka. 

Delaney Nalepka was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of 10 years old. After a 2.5 year battle, Delaney achieved remission for 20 months, then relapsed on October 19, 2020, and passed away less than a month alter on November 12, 2020. 

This beautiful, silly, amazing girl was a friend to all and her motto was “Don’t Worry be Happy”. She is the inspiration for Delaney’s Defenders and we fight on behalf of her and others who suffer from blood cancers. 

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS: 

• Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients  

• Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.  

• Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
