Thanks for visiting our fundraising page! We are Team Telescope, a group of 20 BBHHS students on a mission to raise $35,000 for blood cancer research and patient support! We are led by Ella DeTray, Kate Butler, and Bridget Butler as candidates for LLS's 2022 Students of the Year Campaign. Students of the Year is a student-led leadership program where students are given the opportunity to raise funds for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society over a seven-week period. This year, all events and fundraising will take place from January 29th to March 19th. Every dollar raised counts as one vote for our campaign, and the candidates whose team tallies the most votes earn the prestigious title of Students of the Year.
Our team name follows the idea that when looking at something like blood cancer, sometimes it's hard not to be overwhelmed by the darkness and the tragedy. But through our campaign, we, as students and as members of our community, can find the light in the darkness, the cure. This is why we chose the name Team Telescope, since just like a telescope finding a star in the night sky, we strive to bring the cure, which used to seem so far away, a little closer. We thought this team name truly symbolizes what makes Students of the Year so great, and represents the purpose of our team!
We are so excited to contribute to a cause that has already done so much good! LLS has invested more than 1.3 billion dollars into blood cancer research since it was founded in 1949, advancing 85% of FDA approved blood cancer treatments and paving the way for the survival rates of some blood cancers to double, triple, or even quadruple. Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers.
But there is still so much work that has to be done! Every 3 minutes someone in the United States is diagnosed with blood cancer, and more than 33% of blood cancer patients don't survive 5 years past their diagnosis. Additionally, leukemia is the #1 most diagnosed form of childhood cancer, but in the last 40 years, only 4 blood cancer drugs were created specifically for children. LLS is working to change this, and through your support of our campaign, we are determined to be a part of that difference.
There are so many ways to support our campaign! You can donate directly on this page, where all donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Another great way to support our campaign is by attending one of the events listed at the top of our page. Not only do all proceeds go towards our campaign, but these are fun opportunities to do good wihile spending time with family and friends! If you are not local, you can also support our campaign by purchasing Super Bowl Squares.
Reaching our goal takes everyone! Telling friends and family about our campaign helps us get as many people involved in this important work as possible. Make sure to keep visiting this page as well to stay updated on our campaign!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support! For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org
