Hi everyone!

I am beyond excited to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and to be a candidate for Avon High School again!  This campaign is a fundraiser over a span of 7 weeks to help collect and fundraise donations for LLS. My team and I will be working extremely hard to reach our goal of $30,000 to help those that suffer from blood cancer and eventually cure all blood cancers. We want to help improve the lives of those affected and their families. 

I have personally experienced cancer within my family, so when I had heard about this program and they were looking for students to be able to help, I stepped up. Even though it wasn’t the same type of cancer, I wanted to help make a change in whatever way I can. I was then chosen to be a candidate for Avon High School. I have gathered a team of about twelve people that will help me accomplish this mission in helping those who are fighting and make a difference.

Every 3 minutes, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. 33% of those that are diagnosed do not survive five years after their diagnosis. There are more than 1.2 million people that are living or in remission from leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma. 

LLS mission is through research, education & support, and advocacy. Research by LLS has helped advance 54 out of 62 FDA approved blood cancer treatments since 2017. LLS provides free educational resources and programs for patients. Treatments that are developed for blood cancer are now helping many that are affected by many other types of cancers. 

Why should you donate? Too many people are suffering from this type of cancer and any amount, whether it's big or small, is one step closer to helping find a cure and saving many lives. Most of us probably know someone or are related to someone that might be affected by cancer and that is why donating could help someone you know directly. Even though it might not be the same type of cancer, any advancements in a cure for cancer is going to impact everyone and that is our mission for this fundraiser.
