Dear Friends and Family, 

I am beyond excited to announce that this year I will be participating in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) “Students of the Year” campaign for the second year in a row! Students of the year is a seven-week fundraising competition and leadership development program between high school students raising critical awareness and life-saving funds for blood cancer research and patients in our community. At the end of the seven weeks, the student who raises the most funds will receive the title of Student of the Year and a scholarship for further education! 

LLS has been dedicated to finding a world without cancer since the De Villiers family lost their sixteen-year-old son Robbie to blood cancer in 1944.  Since that day, LLS has invested 1.3 billion into life-saving cancer research. Pushing beyond just their foundation in blood cancer, LLS has the vision to cure all cancers by starting in the blood.  We are already seeing this vision come to life as 60% of the treatments funded by LLS have also gone on to treat other types of cancer and chronic illnesses.  

While there have been many strides towards a future without cancer…there is a lot more work to be done! Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. More than 1.2 million people are living with or in remission for leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma. LLS has not only helped advance blood cancer research but also supports all other cancer research. Now it’s your turn to help!

Our team, Kuchars Kicking Out Cancer, has a huge goal to raise over $200,000, which would be a record and the most any student in our area has ever raised. With your help, we can be a part of changing someone’s life. In the fight for lives, every cent counts! We believe the fight against cancer is one of the most impactful fights anyone can take part in because everyone is affected in some way. Although not personally affected by blood cancer, as most of you know my mother fought and won a long battle with breast cancer in 2015. She went through lots of aggressive chemotherapy, radiation, multiple surgeries, and to this day still deals with lots of medications. From first-hand experience, I know the effects any cancer can have on an individual and all of their loved ones. My mother, my lifelong idol, is living proof that every donation counts. Without a doubt, it takes a team to battle cancer!
