Welcome to Gabby Moran's SOY Fundraising Page!

Jan 24, 2020

I am honored to participate as Brunswick's candidate for the 2020 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I so am proud to represent my community and am raising critical dollars in honor of two young women, Ali and Theresa, whose stories of their fight against cancer have inspired me throughout the campaign. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring awareness to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. With more than $1.3 billion donated to funding research, LLS is changing the face of blood cancer! LLS has supported many new therapies that have not only been used to treat patients with blood cancer but are now being used for other forms of cancer and those with rare forms of autoimmune diseases. LLS has helped fund breakthroughs in cancer research for years, including 34 of the 39 blood cancer treatment options approved by the FDA in 2017 and 2018.

The best thing about being a part of the Student of the Year program is being a positive force in the community. All of the money donated to this campaign stays here in Northeast Ohio, whether that be funding research in the Cleveland Clinic, or helping with copay costs or travel assistance for people in the area. While these blood cancer patients and their families are going through the most difficult times of their lives, LLS eases some of the burdens that come with treatment. With someone being diagnosed with blood cancer once every 3 minutes, it is important to have a great organization like this one to navigate those uncertain and scary times. But LLS can only continue to provide this type of support with the help of YOU.

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax-deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.

Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!

My mom passed on lymphoma many years ago. My husband passed from lung cancer which passed through him by way of the lymphatic system. We need to find a cure for this devastating disease.
