Welcome To My Fundraising Page for the Collegiate of the Year Campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!

This is a fundraising campaign dedicated to raising money for blood cancer research and bettering the lives of those going through treatments.

Cancer has affected my family very deeply. It has been 4 ½ years since we lost my dad, and, as you might expect, there have been so many hardships and sharp learning curves along the way. It is still not easy to talk about cancer. I don’t think it ever will be. I certainly didn’t expect myself to dive into a campaign dedicated to it, and I had plenty of hesitations about doing so; but when we had the first workshop and heard past candidates speak about their experience and I learned how much good it could do, my mind was changed. Maybe I could do this. So here I am!

My goal is to raise $10,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society during this 7-week-long campaign that will be dedicated to my dad, Jerry. We kick off on February 21, and fundraising runs through April 12 with the Grand Finale on May 3. During this time, I’ll be writing letters like these, organizing a team, and spreading the word as much as I can to reach this goal.

I hope that you will help in whatever way you’d like!

Here are a few ways to get involved in the campaign!

1. Make a tax-deductible contribution – Donations may be made on my website: Click "Donate Now" – and don’t forget about company matching gift programs! https://www.matchinggifts.com/lls/

2. Attend an event – My campaign team and I will plan to host an event or 2 during the 7 weeks of the campaign. Watch for details via email and my website.

3. Sponsor or attend the LLS Grand Finale on May 3 – Companies or individuals may sponsor, buy tables or purchase tickets. It will be a fun evening and I would be honored if you would attend. Further information can be found through the LLS website, or contact me!

4. Join my team - Team Turtle, named for all of my Delta Zeta sisters helping me out with this! If you feel compelled to get more involved, I would love to have you join the team! Writing letters, hosting an event, putting together auction baskets-- there are so many ways you can help!

5. Spread the word – I would greatly appreciate your assistance to reach out to your friends, family and colleagues to share the mission of LLS, endorse my campaign and ask for their support. It is through extended networks that we will be most successful and that the ultimate goal of increasing awareness for LLS will be achieved.

This campaign is something very new and exciting for me. I want to do this to help others, and to make a positive impact on the world around me. Hope is what got me through my family’s hardships, and if I can, I want to spread that to others and help raise money in the hope of one day finding a cure.

Thank you so much for reading. If you have any questions, you can always reach out to me at smgielink@gmail.com, and I’d be happy to chat more about it!

Thank you for all of your support,

Sarah Gielink
