Feb 14, 2019

Dear Friends and Family,

I am extremely honored to say that I have been nominated as a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2019 Collegiate of the Year Campaign. I am asking for your support in my efforts to help LLS in its mission to find cures and treatments for blood cancers.

In March of 1999, my parents, Mark & Laura, were awaiting the arrival of their second child. A small family just starting out, they planned to make a home in Greenville, PA and raise their children. But plans don’t always turn out as they should. Mark first showed signs of sickness in early March, he came down with what everyone thought was the flu. The weeks went on, and Mark didn’t feel any better. Finally, Laura convinced him that it was time to see the doctor. In late April, Mark was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia called Myelodysplastic Syndrome, the prognosis was devastating. The doctors gave him six months to live. In the middle of her second trimester, my mom kept hope that the doctors would find a cure and develop better treatments.

As the pregnancy progressed, so did the disease. My mother and father found themselves on an emotional rollercoaster. On July 14th, 1999, labor was induced, and a healthy baby girl entered the world, that baby was me. But sadly, the joy would not last. The disease grew worse and on August 6, 1999 when I was only a few weeks old, my father passed away. The chance of ever knowing him was taken from me by cancer.

This is why the nomination for 2019 LLS Collegiate of the Year is so special to me. I want to find a cure, I want to stop the heartache, and I want to help LLS find cures and treatments. My campaign needs your help, every dollar we raise, is vote for me to help end blood cancers. Everyone I know has someone who has been affected some way by cancer. I shared my story, and I know you have one of your own. Here’s what you can do to help me…
