My name is Ben Malek, and I'm a junior at St. Francis de Sales School. This year, from Jan. 21 to Mar. 12, 2021, I am leading a team with my friend Cimran Naik from NDA to raise the most money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! Our team is named Team Straight Outta Chemo, and we are striving every day of this short, 7 week campaign to reach our goal of raising at least $20,000 for the LLS! All of the money goes towards blood cancer patients and their families, as well as research for leukemia, lymphoma, and many other types of cancer. The goal of the LLS is to ultimately cure blood cancer, and we're trying to help!

This philanthropic youth leadership initiative is a competition among high school student-led teams that not only uplifts a vulnerable group of people, but also develops the students who make it their endeavor to fight for the blood cancer patients who cannot fight for themselves. As I was a Team Member last year for the campaign, I have experienced this transformation - and I hope to grow even closer to my community, even stronger in my leadership skills, and even more connected with my passions than ever before. Through your generous support, you are not only advocating for a cure for cancer - you are helping shape the lives of the youth of Toledo such as myself and my team members.
