Welcome to Hailey Olberding's SOY Fundraising Page!

Mar 15, 2020

I am honored to announce that I am running as a candidate for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Students of the Year (SOY) campaign, and am a team leader for team “Secure the Cure.” LLS was founded in 1949, and since has played a pioneering role in the fight against blood cancers. The foundation has invested nearly $1.3 billion in cancer research. In fact, in 2017 and 2018 alone, LLS helped advance 34 of the 39 blood cancer treatment options approved by the FDA. I know the world is facing a health crisis and this is a moment of uncertain times. But, cancer does not stop affecting lives for the Coronavirus, so neither will I.

LLS is important to me in so many ways, and there are many reasons why I decided to join the campaign. For me, knowing that what I fundraise will make a direct impact on people struggling with cancer, as well as their families and support systems, is one of the most important aspects of the campaign. Helping people has always been one of my top priorities. Many people in my life have been directly affected by cancer, whether it be a through loved one, a friend, or have struggled with it personally. So, by involving myself in this campaign, I will not only be helping people all over Nebraska, but will be making an impact on people I personally know and love. Back in February, I got to meet the LLS “Honored Hero,” Maggie. Maggie was diagnosed May 31, 2018 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She has already completed a year and a half of treatment, with another nine months to go. Maggie is in first grade, and should not have to worry about attending doctor’s appointments and treatments. It is my hope that through this campaign, we can fundraise money to help little girls like Maggie, who deserve to be playing in the sun rather than worrying about cancer.

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.

Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!

I am donating in honor of Aaron Hurt. He was my best friend when we were kids and fought leukemia around the time we were in 1st and 2nd grade. He won his battle, and I thank you, Hailey, for your ambassadorship in helping to ensure others can have a fighting chance like he did.

Thank you Hailey! We lost my son, Jason Stroup to Leukemia back in 1987. We were supported by so many wonderful people in so many ways. So this is to also honor them! Thanks for supporting this fundraising cause and I pray you have good success. We need to remember that there is Hope! And we can help! Bless you!
