Dear Friends and Family,

My name is Joseph Tovar, and I have been nominated as a “Students of the Year” candidate for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), a nonprofit organization benefiting those with blood cancers. “Students of the Year” is a seven-week fundraising campaign beginning January 12, 2019, and ending March 2, 2019. My team, Titans for a Cure, and I are hoping to raise $15,000.

I am doing this because like so many other families, my family has been affected by cancer. My aunt was diagnosed with colorectal cancer around the time I was born; she fought it and is now in full remission. My cousin, also, had cancer when she was just 3 years old and one year after a very hard fight she lost her battle. Here in Orlando, there is a five-year-old girl named Dakota who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia two years ago and is still fighting cancer. Dakota is a wonderful little girl who never seems to let her disease diminish her spirit. She is our local hero. With your help, Dakota and so many children across America could gain access to cutting-edge cancer treatments and advocacy.

So why else should you donate to this cause? The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society donates billions of dollars to blood cancer research, shares their research to benefit other cancers, provides treatment access for those who need it, including, Dakota, and advocates for blood cancer patients. LLS has invested over $1.2 billion in cutting-edge research, funding nearly all of today’s most promising advances. Five-year survival rates for blood cancers have doubled, tripled, even quadrupled since the 1960s. However, there is still more to do. More than 1.2 million people are living with or in remission from leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma. An average of 3,679 children and young adults are diagnosed with blood cancer each year, and 33% of blood cancer patients do not survive five years after diagnosis. But with your help, those numbers may someday be zero, so please, donate today and join the fight against leukemia and other blood cancers. We need you to make this goal possible. You can contribute in one of two ways: either through this website or by making a check paid directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Checks should be mailed to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at 3319 Maguire Blvd Suite 101, Orlando FL 32802. Please put “Joseph Tovar” in the memo line. Also, remember, all donations are tax deductible. The deadline to donate is 5:00 PM, February 28th. On behalf of myself and LLS, I want to thank you for your generosity and your charity.

Sincerly,

Joseph Tovar
