Pia's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Feb 08, 2024

Hey everyone! I'm Pia!

I am a senior at Loudoun County High School and I am so excited to embark on my first year as a NOVA Student Visionary of the Year. Together with my amazing co-candidate, Madison Ruff, we have established Team Capt. Cure For All. The oppurtunity of immersing myself in this remarkable community and contributing to a cause so deeply close to my heart is truly so exciting.

Heres a little dump about me :)

Actively participating in my community is an important facet of my life, and I harbor a passion for philanthropy. I look for oppurtunities that allow me to shed light on situations that need support.

Although I do not play any highschool sports, I am very involved in clubs at my school. As the Co-Founder and Co-President of the Sources of Strength Club, our mission is to instill mental health awareness within the school, fostering a secure space for students to discuss their mental health concerns. Serving as the Executive Vice President of DECA, dedicated to cultivating the next generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs, and holding the same position in the UNICEF club, where we fundraise for children in need worldwide, goes hand-in-hand with my commitment to making a positive impact.

Empathy is a defining trait of my personality, and finding joy in actively contributing to my school and community is very rewarding.

My love of being active stays prominent in my life. Having dedicated 12 years to competitive gymnastics, I find comfort in the rhythmic motion of my body and the exhilaration of swinging on bars. I have found myself immersed in a group of people that have brought out the best in me. Along with gymnastics, I love hiking, swimming, and being out in nature. Embracing the beatiful creations of the Earth has taught me appreciation and joy.

My family and friends are a pillar of my existence. Surrounding myself with individuals who offer me love and support, I share laughter and tears with these cherished connections and relationships. Whether embarking on ice cream adventures or traveling to countries like Iceland and South Africa, my joy and comfort has grown from the bonds I have created.

I have become a NOVA Student Visionary of the Year to suppport my past family members who have been affected by cancer. I do this in their name to support them and honor them indulging myself in their journey of perseverence and discipline. I have created my team with my co-partner, Madison Ruff, to send all of our raised money to Patient Education & Support hoping that we can make a difference in the world of cancer. This choice serves to bridge my dedication to mental health awareness with my fervor to effect change in the world of cancer.

I am aware that not everyone is in a position to donate. Even if it is just forwarding this link to your friends and family; any amount helps. Thank you!

Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers. I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.

This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
