Lia's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser
My name is Lia Kang. I am a co-candidate with my friend, Caroline Sears, in the 2024 Student Visionaries of the Year (SVOY) Campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). This is an amazing opportunity for high schoolers such as myself to raise funds towards the fight against cancer.
Everyone is impacted by cancer in one way or another and I want to do something to fight against it. One of my closest friends, Vivian Seay, was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma in May of 2023 and is currently going through chemotherapy and radiation therapy. I have known Vivian since elementary school as a schoolmate, teammate, and friend. As a player on the Robinson lacrosse and field hockey teams, a sister to her three siblings, my co-coach for young lacrosse players, and more- Vivian is always making such a positive impact on people’s lives. Additionally, my grandfather recently lost his battle to pancreatic cancer this December at the age of 92. He was an inspiration in my life and taught me the importance of hard work and selflessness. These people are so important to me which is why I want to raise awareness and funds towards research and patient support to do my part in fighting against cancer.
Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.
I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.
This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.
As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:
- Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
- Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
- Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!
Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!

I commend Robinson and the Student Visionaries of the Year campaign for helping raise awareness and funds for this devasting disease that took the life of Vivian and so many other innocent casualties. I was fortunate enough to be able to coach Vivian and am heartbroken that it took her life at such a young age. I urge all to help in any way possible so that we can put an end to this disease.
