Emma Pearson | Team Captains for a Cure
Emma and Sami's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser
Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.
My name is Emma Pearson, I'm a junior at Loudoun County High School, and I'm super excited to be a co-candidate of Team Captains For A Cure! A little bit about me, I always say my five favorite things in life are music, books, hockey, crew, and dogs. I have loved music my whole life, from listening to music to playing instruments. I've been playing piano since I was five, and I'm self taught on ukulele, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar. I'm in my school's choir and in music production class, and my dream job would be to become a music producer for recording artists. I have also always loved to read, even when I was a toddler and my parents would read kid's books to me. I have over 100 books on a shelf in my room, and those are just my favorites. If I had to narrow it down to just a few, I would say my favorite books are the Harry Potter series, The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli, and one of my most recent favorites, Every Word You Never Said by Jordon Greene. I'm a huge hockey fan, my family have always been Washington Capitals fans and one of my favorite things is going to or watching hockey games. Crew (rowing) is a recent love of mine, I just joined my school's crew team last school year, but I already love it and want to continue doing it through college. Dogs are another great love of mine, and when I say dogs so generally, I mean it that way, I love ALL dogs. You can always count on me to be the person at parties sitting on the floor with the dog instead of socializing with people. I have two dogs, Madi and Maya, who are German Shephard/Husky mixes and two of my best friends :)
My name is Sami Pearson, I'm a 7th grader at J.L. Simpson Middle School, and I'm honored to be a team member on my sister's team! I love playing softball, crafting, family time, and snuggling with my dogs. I've been playing softball for 7 years, and my favorite position to play is shortstop. My team's name is the Bombers and my dad is the head coach. My favorite type of crafting is drawing, but I also like to paint and do Perler Beads. My favorite things to do with my family are playing board games, going to Washington Capitals hockey games, and watching movies. As Emma mentioned above, we have two dogs, Madi and Maya. One of my favorite parts of every day is gathering my blanket, pillow, and stuffies, and snuggling on the floor with my dogs while watching TV.
We are visionaries; we have a vision for a world without cancer, but we need your help.
This year, we're proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.
As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:
- Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
- Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
- Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit our website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!
Thanks to your support, our efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
