Lydia's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 13, 2024

The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma, to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS does this through its three mission pillars: research, patient support, & advocacy.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics, and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients

  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.

  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

When I was nominated to be a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2024 Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign (SVOY), I knew it was an incredible opportunity. I am incredibly honored to be a part of the ongoing fight to cure cancer, alongside the best team.

Many moments throughout my life have contributed to my interests in medicine, research, and advocacy. I decided to join LLS and SVOY’s mission to share my passion for helping others, especially those going through challenging medical processes. From volunteering in various assisted living, I witnessed the hardships that families faced and learned the importance of providing adequate support to the residents. Additionally, growing up admiring one of my mentors who was a pathologist and cancer researcher, I developed an interest in research and the role it plays in the development of treatments and preventative care. As a result, my personal experiences have driven my desire to fundraise for blood cancer research in hopes of improving the quality of life of patients and their families. I hope that through this campaign, I can shine a light and spread rays of hope to the families of those who are currently fighting the battle against blood cancer and that with each donation we will be closer to finding the cure.

In this campaign, we are honoring the life of the 2024 Honored Hero, Rajan Patel. Currently, he is a freshman in high school who has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Through LLS, he will be provided with the support he needs.

Hi! My name is Lydia Granados and I am a junior in the Biomedical Magnet Program at Wheaton High School. Being a part of this program, I have been able to build relationships with like-minded people, further develop a passion for research, and willbe better equipped for my future endeavors. In school, I am the vice president of the Future Faces of Medicine Club and am a part of various other extracurriculars. Additionally, I was a part of the cross-country team in the fall and developed a love for running. Outside of school, I involve myself in volunteering opportunities, practice music, and teach Sunday School classes at my church. Some other hobbies of mine include reading, arts & crafts, baking, and traveling.

Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibilities.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that vision of a better world - one without blood cancers.

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Additionally, you can support me by spreading the word and sharing my fundraising page with friends & family. Thank you so much for your support

Please tell friends and companies who would also like to donate! I appreciate your support in my efforts to help ensure my generation is the last to see cancer. On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
