My name is Skye Witmer. I am a Junior at Alexandria City High School and I am a proud member of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign. Our goal is to raise money to fight cancer.

I have a vision for a world without cancer because it has found a way to impact almost every single person on this planet. Research has shown that there is a 40% chance that an individual will contract cancer at some point in their lifetime, and this number does not surprise me. My grandfather shown in the photo below was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Although he will have it for the rest of his life, he is lucky to have made it this far. Sadly, his wife, my grandma, was not so lucky. She died of cancer when my mom was just 13 years old. On my father's side, my aunt and dad's father are cancer survivors. We all have our cancer stories and so many individuals have fought its longevity, so it is our turn to beat cancer, and for good.
