Student Visionaries of the Year Washington DC

Mia's Student Visionaries of the Year Washington DC Fundraiser
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the largest non-profit funder of blood cancer research since 1949. The orginization is devoted to:
- Developing cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics, and personalized therapy improving and saving the lives of patients aiming to make this world one without cancer
- Providing free education and patient support for cancer patients and families creating advancement to treatment and accesibility
- Engaging thousands in advocacy to drive policy changes for the elevation of patient voices and acceleration of treatment development to break down the barriers to care
I have decided to dedicate my time as a a Student Visionary for LLS to be an advocate for advancing cancer research and improving patient care. I am personally inspired to take part in this mission in memory and honor of my grandmother who was diagnosed with cancer at a young age and miraculously won the battle and lived another 37 years cancer free. At the time she was diagnosed, she wrote a poem titled, “Hope”. I aspire to shine rays of hope for cancer patients today, honor those who've experienced the devastating impacts of cancer, and contribute to the development of a cure.
Being part of the team, Rays of Hope, has been such a meaningful opportunity. In addition to those I personally connect with as my inspiration for this mission, the 2024 Student Visionaries of the Year are also representing our Honored Hero, Rajan Patel, a young boy diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
I am a Junior at Wheaton High School where I am on the swim & dive, field hockey and lacrosse teams for the Wheaton Knights! I love to travel, try new foods, sing and play intruments.
This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.
Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.
I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.
Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and share it with friends who would also like to donate!
Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!

Karen was an inspiration to me and so many. Her HOPE poem lives in my wallet, and has been with me since it was published in a newspaper, all those years ago. My own early age cancer diagnosis gave me so much HOPE, knowing my Auntie Karen was a survivor. May Karen’s memory live on and be a blessing and hope for a cure in this lifetime. Mia, this is a beautiful mitzvah you are doing in her memory and honor. Xo, Carol
