Student Visionaries of the Year Washington DC

Lucy Carnegie | Team Actions not Words

Welcome!

Jan 21, 2023

Hi Everyone!

For those of you who may not know me, my name is Lucy Carnegie and I am a Junior at Holy Child.  A little about me, I love to listen to crime podcasts, play tennis, travel, and spend lots of time cooking with my dad. I also have a dream. A dream to make a positive impact on those diagnosed with blood cancer. This year I am participating in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign and I need your help.

A little bit about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign:

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) is a global leader in the fight against blood cancer. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign is a campaign in which teams of students raise funds for both:

  • Cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics, and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients

                     AND

  • Free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.

The Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign also mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

My Why

The LLS mission is one especially close to my heart. In 2001, my grandfather was diagnosed with diffuse large B cell lymphoma. My grandfather chose to fight: to fight to spend the rest of his life with his family, to fight to meet his granddaughter.  Although my grandfather is a fighter he could not have done this alone. Because of the critical and groundbreaking research sponsored by organizations such as LLS, there were effective treatments available to my grandfather. Because of this research and innovation, and the care of great healthcare professionals, my grandfather has been cancer free for over 20 years.  Again it is because of this research that I have been able to spend seventeen amazing years with my grandfather.

Why should I donate

No matter how big or small, your donation can make an impact on those diagnosed with leukemia and lymphoma. Your donation will help fund research into developing new technologies to combat blood cancer.

Let's kick blood cancers butt!!

Best,

Lucy Carnegie
