Jessie's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser
Hi everyone!
My name is Jessie Welgos, and I am so excited to be a candidate in the 2023 Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign!
A little bit about me:
I am a junior at the Connelly School of the Holy Child in Potomac, MD
I am a regional, national, and world champion Irish dancer
I have a twin brother and two dogs
I love to ski
I love the beach
I love concerts
I love to travel
A little bit about LLS and the Student Visionaries of the Year Campagin:
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is a global leader in the fight against blood cancer. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign is a campaign in which teams of students raise funds for both:
- Cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
AND
- Provision of free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
In addition, the Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign also mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
Over the past 5 years, participants in the SVOY campaign have raised over 108 million dollars.
Why am I participating in this campaign?
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built to help create a better world - one without blood cancers. I am participating in the 2023 Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign to help create this better world and truly make a change in peoples' lives. In addition, I also have a very personal relation to this cause. My uncle has leukemia, and I am fundraising in honor of him.
Why should you contribute to my campaign?
I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help. Currently, over 1.4 million people are either living with or in remission from blood cancers. An estimated 54,025 of them are children younger than 20. Together, we can make this number 0. By donating to my website, you can become a hero to numerous cancer patients across the globe. Every dollar counts.
Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website and tell friends who would also like to donate!
IMPORTANT: Many companies have a matching gifts policy, so check to see if this applies to you before donating. If you plan to utilize this, please let me know so I can ensure that my campaign is credited accordingly.
Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!

As a former oncology social worker, I've had the privilege of supporting many brave patients who have fought leukemia or lymphoma diagnoses. I've also had the opportunity to witness some of their incredible survival stories. I've always been impressed by LLS and the variety of services it offers to patients and I applaud Jessie Welgos for taking up this mantle of support for this wonderful organization. God bless you and your uncle Jessie!
